【Seafood Buffet】 Stay Report at Shimoda Juraku Hotel with Our 2‑Year‑Old!

Traveling with kids is the perfect opportunity to make lasting memories⭐️
Recently, we visited Shimoda Juraku Hotel, where you can enjoy a reasonably priced seafood buffet!
Here’s our stay report⭐️

Why we chose Shimoda Juraku Hotel 📌

  • They offer a seafood buffet
  • Bedding is laid out on the floor, so it’s safe even for toddlers
  • You can stay for about ¥10,000 (about US$ 67 )per person per night

Access 🚗

From Tokyo, it’s roughly a 3‑hour drive!
After getting off the highway, it’s a winding mountain road, so the trip felt long at first.
On the way back, we took a detour to the Izu Shaboten Zoo which made the drive more fun.

Meal Review 🍴

We booked a plan including both dinner and breakfast buffet!
(You can find details on the plan via their Rakuten Travel page.)

With two meals included, the cost was around ¥12,500 per night — a great deal!

Dinner Buffet

The seafood selection is fresh and reflects Izu’s local catch🐟️

Items include tuna, scallops, turban shell (sazae), shrimp, and more.

There’s even a self-service grill for shellfish!

Tableside tempura is served, plus meats and more — overall, very generous⭐️

So many kind of meat!! Let's BBQ🌞

Kids’ menu is available (e.g., potato fries), so even picky eaters are covered 👧👦

Breakfast Buffet🥐

Solid lineup, including sashimi again in the morning 🐟️

You can enjoy western-style buffet too, like bread, coffe 🥐☕️

Next to the dining hall are tables and a slide, plus a board-game corner — very helpful to entertain kids

Note: managing a buffet with a child can be a whirlwind 😂

Room: Spacious & Toddler-Proof 👶

Our room had the typical ryokan style, and while the water fixtures looked a bit dated, the space was generous — absolutely fine for the price👍️👍️

The bedding is laid out on the floor, which means toddler-friendly sleeping arrangement — no risk of rolling off a bed!👶

Child Pricing (via Rakuten Travel):

  • Elementary school: 70% of adult rate

  • Toddler (with meals & bedding): 50% of adult rate

  • Toddler (meal only or bedding only): ¥3,300

  • Toddler (no meal, no bedding): ¥1,650

Onsen: Standard Quality♨️

The hot springs were average — we weren’t looking for high-end onsen anyway, since we can’t relax much with a young child😭
They do lend baby bath chairs, which is appreciated.

The hotel offers a kids-welcome atmosphere , kid's amenity is available like toothbrush, towel in the panda bag!

It's best memory to take photo with matching Yukata 👘❤

Nearby Attractions🌊

On our way home, we stopped by Shirahama Beach (8 min away) and Izu Cactus Park (~1 hour away).

Shirahama Beach was unexpectedly beautiful!

At Izu Shaboten Zoo, you can buy souvenir photos (about ¥1,200) and see freely roaming peacocks!

Points to Watch Out For...

⚠️ Many toll roads in Izu only accept cash, not ETC.
Roads like Izu Skyline, Izu Chuo-do, and Shuzenji Road won’t take standard ETC—bring enough cash (minimum ¥ 2,000) !!

Final Thoughts: So Many Happy Memories!

Overall, Shimoda Juraku Hotel was a safe and comfortable choice for families.
We’d love to return for that seafood buffet again! ⭐️⭐️

What We Loved

  • Exceeded expectations with the seafood buffet
  • Floor bedding is toddler-proof
  • Very friendly staff

Not-So-Great Points

  • Facilities feel slightly aged
  • Onsen wasn’t the top priority
  • Be prepared for toll roads accepting cash only
  • If you’re interested in a family-friendly stay with delicious seafood and a cozy ryokan experience, this hotel is definitely worth considering!⭐️
